Digital Testing · Checklist

Release Readiness Checklist — a practical gate before every release.

Functional, performance, security and accessibility — covered once, in one gate, instead of scattered across separate sign-offs that nobody owns end to end.

Test procedureWalk each feature against its written acceptance criteria and record pass/fail, not a general impression.

Practical example / evidenceAcceptance-criteria checklist signed off per feature.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedurePull the open-defect list filtered by severity and confirm nothing above the agreed release-blocking threshold remains open.

Practical example / evidenceDefect tracker export showing severity and status at release time.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureCheck the test run log confirms the full regression suite executed, not a filtered subset scoped only to recent changes.

Practical example / evidenceFull regression-suite execution report for this build.

Stage 1 of 5
  • How to verify this →

Test procedureRun the load test and diff the resulting latency/throughput numbers against the last release's recorded baseline.

Practical example / evidenceLoad-test report with a side-by-side comparison to the prior baseline.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedurePull the latest SAST/DAST/dependency-scan report and confirm zero open critical findings, or documented accepted risk for each.

Practical example / evidenceScan report with critical-finding count and remediation/acceptance status.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureRun an automated accessibility scan plus a quick keyboard/screen-reader pass on every new or changed screen.

Practical example / evidenceAccessibility spot-check notes for each changed screen.

Stage 2 of 5
  • How to verify this →

Test procedureCheck CI history for the last five runs of this suite; flag any test that passed only after a rerun.

Practical example / evidenceCI run history showing pass consistency, with flaky tests listed separately.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureReview the visual-diff tool's output for this build and confirm every flagged diff was explicitly approved, not auto-dismissed.

Practical example / evidenceVisual regression tool report with approval status per diff.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureRun the contract-test suite against the changed service and confirm all consumer contracts still pass.

Practical example / evidenceContract-test run results for each changed interface.

Stage 3 of 5
  • How to verify this →

Test procedureTime a rehearsed rollback in a staging environment and compare it against the agreed maximum acceptable downtime.

Practical example / evidenceRollback runbook plus a timed rehearsal record.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureConfirm the specific dashboards and alert thresholds for this release are configured and visible before go-live, not improvised after.

Practical example / evidenceMonitoring dashboard/alert configuration tied to this release.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureCheck the deployment config for a flag or percentage-based rollout on any change flagged as higher-risk.

Practical example / evidenceFeature-flag or staged-rollout configuration for the release.

Stage 4 of 5
  • How to verify this →

Test procedureCheck the release ticket for an explicit sign-off comment or approval from each named lead, with a timestamp.

Practical example / evidenceRelease ticket/checklist with named sign-offs.

  • How to verify this →

Test procedureReview the release notes draft against the actual feature/defect list to confirm nothing shipped is undocumented.

Practical example / evidenceDrafted and reviewed release notes / customer communication.

Frequently asked questions

Is this gate the same for every release?

No — scale the depth of non-functional checks to the risk of the release. A config-only hotfix doesn't need a full performance run; a major feature touching authentication does.

How does this relate to shift-left and shift-right testing?

This gate sits at the handoff point between the two — shift-left work (earlier testing in design and development) should mean fewer surprises reach this checklist, and shift-right practices (production monitoring, feature flags) pick up anything this gate can't catch before release.
